Live, love and laugh- Mike Baker, AHS student
A year after Cameron O’Connor’s horrible death, the Arlington community came together to honor Cameron's life. On March 31 at the Son’s of Italy, the Cameron G. O’Connor Foundation held a fundraiser that was open to anyone. The mission of the Foundation is to sponsor programs that support the educational needs, athletic pursuits and emotional growth of the youth of our community.
At the event there were raffle tickets, food, music and more, with people of all ages in attendance. “It was really nice to see so many students there,” said Mrs. Ortwein, a teacher at Arlington High. “I think that this is a good way for people to support each other celebrating someone’s life.” “The overwhelming support was outstanding. I can only hope for the best in future events. On behalf of my family and the CGO Foundation, I want to personally thank everyone who helped out and came to the event,” said Brendan, Cameron’s younger brother. “We surpassed our estimate of $5,000 by a long shot. We can’t wait to give back to the community, which has given us so much support. But this event would not have been so successful without the youth of Arlington and the surrounding communities, stepping up and making a difference,” Brendan continued. The atmosphere was wild with laughter and old friends uniting. It was more than just a fundraiser; it was a celebration of a life, and a chance to “live, love and laugh” with friends and family. There were many different raffles, from gift certificates to Boston sports tickets, baskets of cosmetics, a trip to Florida, loads of Verizon products and much more. The raffle went smoothly leaving everyone in attendance happy. “Saturday nights are pretty important to kids in high school,” Brendan stated, “It’s a chance for them to escape from school and it was really nice to see them show up and do something proactive. It really shows that this Community cares.” “Ponder Report” an Arlington High Publication-April 2007
